More than 100,000 people have been evacuated due to heavy rain and fatal floods in southern China, with the government issuing its highest-level rainstorm warning for the affected area on Tuesday.

China's meteorological authority on Sunday issued a yellow alert for heavy rains across most parts of the country.

China says five days of rainstorms in southern China have left 26 people dead and three missing and led to direct economic losses of 4 billion yuan ($650 million).

At least 37 people have died and six others remain missing after heavy rains, the type that occur once every 100 years, lashed several provinces in southern China.

At least 295 people have been confirmed dead or missing after rainstorms and Typhoon Soulik hit China, causing floods, landslides and buildings to collapse, the government today.

Chinese authorities say rainstorms that battered southern China this week have killed 55 people and left 14 others missing.

Officials have raised the death toll to at least 37 in the heaviest rainstorm to hit Beijing in six decades, and dozens of other storm deaths have been reported elsewhere in China.

At least nine persons were killed and one went missing in south China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region after rainstorms battered the region, affecting millions of people over the last few days, local authorities said.
