Months after a dog was thrown off a terrace by medical students in Chennai, another horrific case of animal brutality has emerged - this time just over 100 kilometres away, in Vellore. Students of the Christian Medical College tortured and killed a monkey on campus last week and buried the body close to the college mess.

Outrage had overflowed on social media and people had crowd-sourced information to trace the perpetrators. An activist located the dog, which had managed to survive.

The Madras High Court today issued notice to the Tamil Nadu government on a petition seeking cancellation of bail granted by a lower court to two MBBS students, who had thrown a five-month-old stray dog from the terrace of a three-storied building earlier this month.

The two medical students who flung a dog from a rooftop in Chennai and filmed her hurtling several storeys to the ground have been suspended by their college.
