Biocon's contract research arm - Syngene International - on Thursday reported a 31.25 per cent rise in net profit at Rs 58.8 crore for the third quarter of financial year 2015-16.

For the three months to Dec. 31, Biocon reported a net profit of Rs 91 crore, down 13 per cent from a year earlier, as research and development expenses more than doubled.

Some analysts cited disappointment over operating margins, with Kotak Institutional Equities expressing concerns about research and development margins.

The total income of the group increased to Rs 532.18 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2011.
