The flood situation in Assam continued to remain grim with rising water levels of the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers inundating fresh areas in the state and impacting over 55 lakh people across 32 districts, officials said on Wednesday.

In the wake of heavy rainfall in the basin of Barak river and its tributaries in Assam, the Central Water Commission (CWC) today said the river is expected to flow in "moderate to high flood situation" in the state and neighbouring Meghalaya and Manipur over the next few days.

Over 15,000 people across Assam were affected by floods triggered by incessant rains in the last two days, officials said on Tuesday. Water levels of major rivers, including Brahmaputra and Barak, are also rising, they added.
