Treasure hunters off Florida found $4.5 million in gold coins from a Spanish ship that sunk during a hurricane in the 18th century, the salvage company said Wednesday.

A replica of the 18th century ship that took a French general on his voyage to become a hero of the American war of independence was to set sail again today, cheered off by thousands of well-wishers and President Francois Hollande.

A reconstruction of the 213-foot (65-meter) frigate used by France's Marquis de Lafayette to bring reinforcements to American revolutionaries in 1780 has tested the waters for the first time.
