Service on Tirunelveli-Tenkasi BG likely to resume in April

Madurai: Train service on the newly-laid BG track between Tirunelveli and Tenkasi is likely to resume in April this year after the Railway Safety Commissioner (RSC) inspects the 72 km stretch by March, a top official has said.

The inspected the Rs 220 crore project yesterday.

The Rs 220 crore project with 13 major bridges and over 100 minor bridges had been checked by operating trolleys and goods trains, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai, A K Goel, told reporters yesterday.

The RSC "may complete his inspection in March and submit his report immediately," Goel said.

If the RSC suggested any rectification on the safety aspect, it would be carried out. After the receipt of the final report from the RSC on the condition of the newly-laid tracks, steps will be taken for resuming passenger train services, Goel said.

There is also a future possibility to connect Tiruchendur with Tenkasi via Tirunelveli, Goel said. He assured he would pay special attention on the maintenance of coaches if specific complaints were made about the "unhygienic" condition of the bogies.
