Cannes 2011: Best Dressed on the Red Carpet

Penelope Cruz, Marchesa: Yummy mummy Penelope made a memorable appearance in sure-shot Marchesa, gold Swarovski clutch and Chopard jewelry. Thank God she chose an updo – we might have had had envy overkill if she'd left her famously lovely hair loose

Cheryl Cole, Stéphane Rolland Couture: X-Factor judge Cheryl Cole sent the cameras in a frenzy as she strutted about on the red carpet in a plunging white Stephane Rolland dress with gold baubles and a clutch to match.

Fan Bingbing, Chris Bu Kewen: The Chinese actress's exaggerated scarlet Chinoiserie dress was a moment of opulent drama on the red carpet. And isn't that pretty much what Cannes is about?

Karolina Kurkova, Armani: You can never go wrong with Armani Privè but French model Karolina looks simply gorgeous in this Swarowski encrusted mermaid number. We love the details on the shoulder and the Cartier jewels- Polished is the word!

Sarah Jessica Parker, Elie Saab: SJP brought her Sex and The City style to the red carpet in chic floral Elie Saab Fall 2011 dress, which she ripped straight from the runway.

Rachel McAdams, Maxime Simoens Couture: The Notebook star was in full bloom in a simple white dress and fresh make-up, topped off by expertly blow-dried hair.

Salma Hayek, Gucci Première: The Mexican actress proved why she's so famous in a strapless champagne silk evening gown. Husband Francois-Henri Pinault stuck close to his lovely lady throughout!

Uma Thurman, Versace: Uma drew gasps on the opening night in a silk Versace gown with a prominant plumage as she waltzed about on the red carpet.

Uma Thurman, Chanel: Uma looked divine in a floor-sweeping Chanel Couture stunner that emphasized all the right curves. A soft-grey train flounced behind the tall, lean actress as she sashayed up the red-carpet.

Salma Hayek, Gucci: Salma arrived for the photocall of Puss In Boots with Antonio Banderas in a red leather strapless dress from the Gucci Fall 2011 Collection. Might have missed JLo's Met Gala appearance- both ladies wore the same flowery shrug!

Fan Bingbing, Versace: Fan Bingbing was graceful in an Atelier Versace salmon pink layered gown with a sweetheart neckline. Extra points for the Swarovski Crystal encrusted belt.

Rachel McAdams, Marchesa: In a sudden departure from the all-white angelic look, Rachel chose nude Marchesa, with striking red decorative lace and light make-up. Old Hollywood glamour at it's best!

Clemence Poesy, YSL Edition Soir: Clemence stood gracefully on suede teal peep-toes as she worked simplicity in the understated off-shoulder gown lightly embellished around the neckline.

Tilda Swinton, Haider Ackermann: Tilda was unusual as usual inn asymmetrical waist skirt with a slit and a halter top. Jil Sander pumps and pink lips added some glam, but the prize goes to the Olympia Le-Tan purse, which takes its inspiration from a series of children's books called Ant and Bee.

Jane Fonda, Emilio Pucci: The 73-year-old strode confidently on the red carpet in an Emilio Pucci full sleeved gown with embellished panels. Chopard jewels, a gold clutch and matching peep-toes completed her look.

Elizabeth Olsen, The Row: Olsen twins' little sis is all grown up now. She is fresh as a flower in this bright, white The Row creation.

Li Bingbing, Georges Chakra Couture: The Chinese actress was Snow White in a strapless ballgown with ostrich-like detailing on top and overflowing, dramatic bottom.

Bar Rafaeli, Roberto Cavalli: Newly single Bar Rafaeli pours her perfect curves into a Roberto Cavalli midnight blue gown with silver embellishments. She completed her look with a silver clutch and Chopard jewels.
