Forget #nofilter, the toxic smog enveloping New Delhi and around requires every filter you can lay your hands on. The Internet, as we know it, rarely passes on a chance to comment virtually on the world outside. It's doing it now in the most striking manner possible. On Instagram, users have turned the anti-pollution masks that it's now become dangerous to leave home without into stunning examples of photography. Smog = art, who knew? Stay safe, Delhi, and while you are waiting to exhale, look at these wonderful images.
This pre-wedding photo series by Banjara Studios depicts the current state of Delhi, a poignant reminder that the show must go on despite the deadly air we breathe.
This heart-breaking artwork by Adrita illustrates the hard reality of our beloved capital.
Influencers have taken to Instagram and have customised their own masks. The silver lining, if it can be called that, tarnished though it be.
Even celebrities are voicing their concerns about our capital. Parineeti Chopra was in Delhi filming. She posted this:
Varun Dhawan talks about how we should make a change and not blame the farmers or the politics.
Delhi and its surrounding parts seem to have become a gas chamber, waking up to a blanket of smog on Tuesday and making us dump our AC remotes for air purifiers. The situation is so bad that the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared a public health emergency as the levels of fine pollutants are harmful to health. The air purity shouldn't exceed 300 but Delhi has crossed that threshold and is at 703, according to IMA. The purity of the air in Delhi is so bad that it's equivalent to smoking about 50 cigarettes a day, give or take. We can't even curse our smoker friends for destroying our lungs anymore, can we? One of the reasons behind this blanket of smog is the practice of burning of crops in Punjab and Haryana. It's a common practice each year for farmers, so that they can get rid of the waste and the new harvest is fresh. Until the smog lifts, stay indoors, keep calm and browse Instagram.
