Winter is the season we all wait for. Nothing can be more exciting than family gatherings, weddings, barbecue parties or even just having a hot cup of cocoa with your friends. Along with your clothes, your hair is the make or break point of your look. But what do you do when your hair is just not ready to compromise, especially with the dreadful dryness and static of winter?
Here are some common winter hair problems that you can fix easily.
1. Hair Static
Due to the dry air, hair tends to lose its moisture. And as moisture is essential for volume and movement of the tresses, it leads to hair static. Apart from that, the heat from your heavy winter clothes and outerwear such as scarves, wooly collars and jackets can also cause fly-away strands.
Solution: Plastic combs cause friction in your hair, so use metal combs instead which will reduce the amount of static. Rub dryer sheets on your hair, it is the oldest trick in the book but definitely works. Dryer sheets kill the static in your hair. Also rub dryer sheets on your pillow before you go to sleep and you'll be good to go in the morning. Hair serum might be an absolute no for those with fine hair but during the winter season, it works wonders by settling the hair down.
2. Split ends
Your hair needs different treatments in different weather. Using the same shampoo in winter that you used in summer can result in split ends. If your hair is dry they are more prone to splitting, and washing your hair too often can result in split ends as well. No matter what weather it is, not getting hair trimmed regularly will lead to those unhealthy split ends.
Solution: When the weather changes, with the onset of winters, it is a good time to rotate shampoos. For the winters, you should be using a protective moisturising shampoo to make up for all the lost water, while smoothing shampoos are good for summers. Avoid using high-heat techniques like ironing or blow drying, it will only make the hair dryer.
3. Dry and itchy scalp
Lack of moisture can make the skin on your head and your hair dry. This can cause build-up of dandruff in your hair. And flaky dandruff can result in itching in your hair.
Solution: Hair masks are the way to go and they can easily be made at home. Hot oil massages is what the hair craves for in this season, so give those locks a Saturday off and go get that super relaxing oil massage.
4. Limp hair
The build-up of grime, sebum and product on the scalp can weigh down the hair excessively, even more so if one has fine, thin hair.
Solution: Backcombing the hair at the crown section can add volume to it in the simplest way possible. Along with that, ensure that you wash your scalp with a clarifying shampoo every week. For days when a hair wash isn't possible, a spritz of dry shampoo will do the trick.
