Trinamool MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay was arrested after hours of questioning by CBI
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Lok Sabha MP and leader of Trinamool Congress, has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation,
after hours of questioning in Kolkata in connection with the alleged Rose Valley chit fund scam, in which thousands of small investors were allegedly cheated. Mr Bandyopadhyay is the second close aide of Trinamool chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to be arrested in the last week. Trinamool Congress lawmaker

Soon after the arrest of Mr Bandyopadhyay, a BJP office in Kolkata was reportedly attacked.
Ms Banerjee, alleging vendetta by the central government due to her party's strong criticism of the notes ban move, said her party will protest against the centre starting tomorrow.
"The Trinamool Congress will start state wide protests and agitations from tomorrow. We will take to the streets against Modi government tomorrow... Will protest outside RBI Kolkata on January 9, and on January 10 and 11 in Delhi" Ms Banerjee said.
The West Bengal chief minister also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "
Trinamool-bandi after note-bandi."
"Amit Shah, Narendra Modi should be arrested, PM Modi does not understand Indian politics. Many political parties are scared, but are not able to speak out. Emergency situation is going on... People should come out on roads against demonetization move. People will teach them a lesson," Ms Banerjee added.
The CBI is investigating the unregulated financial investment schemes that were run by Rose Valley - a Bengal conglomerate with interests in real estate and entertainment. The case, filed two years ago, accuses Rose Valley of stealing nearly 17,000 crores from investors.
