The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning in Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours.
The southwest monsoon finally hit Mumbai on Tuesday, 13 days after its normal onset date, bringing much- needed relief from the sweltering heat.
The overnight rain, however, inundated several low-lying areas of the city by Wednesday morning, affecting road traffic and the daily commute of thousands of residents.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast Delhi's maximum temperature to be around 39-41 degrees Celsius today, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 25-27 degrees Celsius.

Incessant rain triggered flash floods in Keyi Panyor district of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday morning, inundating low-lying areas and damaging 18 residential units, while landslides on a national highway disrupted vehicular movement and left several people stranded, an official said.
Three people reportedly went missing due to the flash floods at the Neepco project colony near Poosa under the Yazali circle, state disaster management secretary Dani Sulu said.
An under-construction retaining wall collapsed due to the downpour, and a large amount of water inundated low-lying residential areas in and around the colony, he said.

Delhi woke up to a partly cloudy sky on Wednesday, with the weather office forecasting light rain along with thunder and lightning in a few isolated places.
The minimum temperature settled at 26 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, two notches below normal. Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 25.5 degrees Celsius, 2.5 notches below normal, while Lodhi Road recorded 25.6 degrees Celsius, 2.4 notches below normal.
The Ridge station recorded 23.8 degrees Celsius, 4.7 notches below normal, and Ayanagar logged 25.7 degrees Celsius, 2.2 notches below normal.

Parts of the metropolis received more than 200 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8 am, officials said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning in Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours.
The island city recorded an average rainfall of 195 mm, while the western suburbs received 208 mm and the eastern suburbs 167 mm during the 24 hours ending at 8 am, according to civic data.

Heavy rains lashed Maharashtra's Thane and Palghar districts over the last 24 hours, triggering a landslide at the scenic Malshej Ghat and leading to dozens of complaints of tree falls, officials said on Wednesday.
A minor landslide was reported on Tuesday evening along the vital Malshej Ghat stretch, which connects Thane and Pune districts, Thane's Resident Deputy Collector Sandeep Mane said.
The incident occurred between the "wash point" and "umbrella point" at the ghat between 6 pm and 7 pm on Tuesday, according to district disaster management authorities.

The deaths occurred around 7.30 pm in Murshidabad district's Dhulian when lightning struck a boat ferrying passengers across the Ganga to Parlalpur in Malda district, officials said.
A thunderstorm hit several districts in the afternoon, while dark clouds over Kolkata gave way to rain around 2 pm. The downpour brought relief from humid conditions but caused widespread traffic disruptions across the metropolis.
Several parts of Kolkata reported waterlogging, while strong winds uprooted trees at key locations, leading to traffic congestion on several roads.

The southwest monsoon finally hit Mumbai on Tuesday, 13 days after its normal onset date, bringing much- needed relief from the sweltering heat.
"The southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of central Arabian Sea, some more parts of Maharashtra including Mumbai, remaining parts of Telangana and Odisha, some more parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar," said an India Meteorological Department (IMD) release. The normal onset date of the monsoon in Mumbai is June 10. Notably, in 2023 the monsoon had arrived even later, on June 25, according to IMD data.
The longest delay was in 1974 and 1958 when the onset of monsoon was recorded on June 28, according to the IMD.
