ULFA: Moving to safe haven in China?
Guwahati: Is the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) shifting base to China?

Hours after six people were killed in two powerful blasts near Guwahati on Sunday, Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister of strife-torn Assam, told NDTV that the terrorist outfit is trying to shift base beyond the border.

"I don't know whether ULFA has support from Chinese authorities, but they are undoubtedly trying to shift their base to China," Gogoi said.

ULFA is strongly suspected of being behind the blasts in Nalbari, which injured over 50 people. (Read: Twin blasts in Assam) Police suspect the group was desperate to carry out a few strikes in the run-up to its 'protest day' on November 27.

The violence also follows recent arrests of some senior ULFA leaders, including Sasha Choudhury and Chitrabon Hazarika.

60 kms from the state Capital, Nalbari was once the hotbed of ULFA activity and is now the headquarters of its strike battalion. The town remains tense because security forces have confirmed information on more ULFA operatives moving around with three more Improvised Expolsive Devices (IEDs) in their possession.
