New Delhi:

An application filed by Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's lawyer earlier today without his consent will be withdrawn, the lawyer Milind Pawar said.

Mr Pawar in the application filed in a Pune court had alleged threat to Mr Gandhi's life from followers of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

He is representing Mr Gandhi in a defamation case filed by Satyaki Savarkar, the grandnephew of Savarkar, over certain statements made by the Congress leader against the late freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue.

Mr Pawar said he will submit another application on Thursday to withdraw the application filed before judicial magistrate (first class) Amol Shinde.

The lawyer said he drafted the application without consulting Mr Gandhi, and the Congress leader has taken a "strong exception to the filing... and expressed his disagreement with its contents", the lawyer said in a statement on Wednesday.

A court in Maharashtra's Nashik on July 24 granted bail to Mr Gandhi in a defamation case filed against him for remarks about the Hindutva ideologue.

Mr Pawar earlier today said the Congress party filed the separate application in court to place certain important developments on judicial record so that the entire political and historical context can be seen as a whole.
