Prince: The Labrador Who Got a 21-Gun Salute

Prince worked with the Mumbai Police's Bomb Detection Squad.

Mumbai: After years of solid service with the Mumbai police force, Prince had just moved on to his retired life this August. But he could not enjoy his retired life for too long; on Friday morning, he died after suffering a heart attack.

Prince, a 10-year-old Labrador, worked with the Mumbai Police's Bomb Detection Squad. He died at the Veterinary Hospital in Parel in Central Mumbai.

His employers, the Mumbai Police, gave him a fitting farewell. They honoured him with a state funeral and a 21-gun salute.

The Labrador's greatest contribution, the police say, was during the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai, when he unearthed four live bombs and 17 hand grenades, saving hundreds of lives.

Earlier, when terror had struck Mumbai's life line - the local trains - on July 7, 2006, Prince significantly helped the probe by sniffing out forensic evidence.
