Due to the continuous protest by the opposition members, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha were adjourned till Friday, 11:00 am.

"As long as you show placards, the proceedings of the House cannot go on," Acting Speaker Krishna Prasad Tenet said.

As the Rajya Sabha proceedings resume, discussion on The Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2025 moved by Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, continues in the upper house of the Parliament for consideration and passing.

Rajya Sabha on Thursday bid farewell to six members from Tamil Nadu who are completing their terms, with MPs across parties appreciating their contribution towards strengthening democratic traditions in the country.

One of the retiring members, P Wilson of DMK, has been re-elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Terms of M Mohamed Abdulla (DMK), N Chandrasegharan (AIADMK), Anbumani Ramadoss (PMK), M Shanmugam (DMK), Vaiko (MDMK) and P Wilson (DMK) ends on Thursday.

Rajya Sabha's Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh on Thursday rejected around 30 adjournment notices given by Opposition party members over various issues, including for discussing the "unexpected resignation of Chairman Rajya Sabha" and former Vice President Jagdeep Dhakhar.

Indian Union Muslim League MP, Abdul Wahab had demanded a discussion under Rule 267, on the 'unexpected resignation of Honourable Chairman Rajya Sabha.'

Multiple Opposition leaders have repeatedly raised questions over the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, claiming that the former VP might have been forced to resign due to differences between leaders.

Ujjwal Deorao Nikam Takes Oath As Member Of Parliament In Rajya Sabha

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, known for handling the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack trials, took oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

The Special Public Prosecutor was nominated to the upper house by the President on July 13.

Apart from Nikam, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Meenakshi Jain, and Sadanandan Master were also nominated to the Upper House under Article 80(1)(a) of the Constitution, read with clause (3) of the same article. The nominations come in the wake of vacancies created by the retirement of previously nominated members.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Thursday said that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) being carried out in Bihar has ramifications at the pan-India level.

"This is not just a Bihar issue; it is a national emergency for democracy. If this goes unchecked, similar tactics will be exported to other states in the run-up to elections," Tagore said. "Democracy dies not just when Parliament is silenced, but when the poor are robbed of their vote," he added.

Congress's Priyanka Gandhi Vadra alleged that opposition leaders are not allowed to speak in Parliament. "We have been asking for discussions; they should agree. In the last session, I was surprised to see that disruption was starting from the treasury benches. They would pick a topic so that we react to it, and then there would be chaos, and the House would get adjourned. It is suiting them just fine," she said.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Congress's Manickam Tagore said that the party will once again raise the issue of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the Lok Sabha. "INDIA demands an immediate discussion on this attack on democracy. 52 lakh people have been denied their right to vote in Bihar. We will hold a protest at Makkar Dwar (outside the parliament) at 10:30 AM today," he wrote.
