Mumbai's quintuplets

Mumbai:

The bouquet of joy were born to Sabeera Khan on Friday morning - five baby boys conceived naturally.

"Today is Jumma (Friday). And it was on a Jumma when I got to know my wife was pregnant with five babies. I am very happy. We will be able to afford their upbringing," said Ubaid Khan, father.

It was a C-Section delivery, complex given the number of babies involved.

The operation was an hour long, though the actual delivery took only three minutes.

The doctors claim this is the first time in India, quintuplets have been successfully delivered.

"It was an emotional moment to see the baby being delivered. I cannot express in words. Two babies came out crying. It was heartrending," said Dr Suchitra N Pandit, Gynaecologist, Kokilaben Ambani Hospital.

Two of the babies have been kept on the ventilator for observation. All of them will be kept in the hospital for 6-8 weeks.

Once released they will go back home to an older sibling, a 10-month-old brother, in the care of a mother who will have her hands full.
