Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan meets Sonia Gandhi in Delhi
New Delhi: Amidst speculation that he may be replaced, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today called on Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi in what he said was a "very good meeting".

Mr Chavan told PTI that he discussed the Congress's readiness for Assembly elections later this year in Maharashtra and termed the interaction with the party chief "very good".

He said he plans to meet Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and some other senior party leaders tomorrow.

After the party's rout in the Lok Sabha elections, a section of leaders in Maharashtra have been seeking Mr Chavan's removal from the post of chief minister. Assembly polls in Maharashtra are scheduled for October this year.

Earlier today, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, too, met the Congress chief after which there were indications that he will continue in his post and also lead the party in the Haryana Assembly elections.

After the party's dismal showing in the general elections in Haryana, there was much speculation about a revamp of the state leadership. Senior Congress leader Birender Singh had recently spoken out against Hooda's leadership and blamed him for Congress's poll debacle in Haryana.
