Kashmir crisis: Hardliner Geelani appeals for peace

Kashmir: After bouts of violent protests in the valley over the last one week, all districts of Kashmir remained under curfew even on Wednesday as additional paramilitary forces reached the valley.

Late evening on Wednesday, one more person was killed in a firing in Srinagar's Bemina area.

Earlier in the day, there were reports of curfew violations and protests in some parts of the valley.

Also, in another incident protesters set on fire two vehicles in  Qamarwari in Srinagar, security forces chased the protesters away by lathicharging and firing tear gas.

A total of 29 people have been killed in clashes across the Valley since Friday.

Earlier on Tuesday, stone-pelting mobs had defied curfew at many places and attacked police personnel in parts of  Srinagar, Budgam, and Bandipora, Baramulla in north Kashmir, Awantipora, and Kulgam in south Kashmir .

Five people were killed on Tuesday and at least 20 policemen were injured in the violence that broke out on Tuesday.

On the other hand, an unusual  appeal for peace in the Valley came from the hardliner separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

Hurriyat leader Geelani made an appeal to people not to burn police stations, rail tracks and public property and said violence goes against the Kashmir cause.
