Indore: ABVP men rough up woman principal

Indore: The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the BJP's student's wing, is in the news for the wrong reasons again, this time in Indore.

On Friday, 55-year-old woman principal of Indore's Gayatri Devi College, Anju Choubey, left her office on a stretcher after ABVP activists went in to ask her to sack a Class IV college staffer, accused of eve-teasing.

College staff doesn't know what happened inside, but 20 minutes later the principal had fallen unconscious. Doctors say her blood pressure had shot up.

"Some people came to the college. We don't know them. Then we found the principal had fainted," said Kumkum Shrivastav, a lecturer at the college.

The police has registered an FIR against three students, who the college staff say, brought in the men.

"We have registered a case. The complaint has been filed against three people. We are still investigating," said Shailender Singh, CSP, Indore.

The girls have been charged with obstructing work and creating disturbance.

"There was no argument with her. We were all out and we were writing our applications. All of us are ABVP members," said Srestha Joshi, an ABVP member and a student at the Gayatri Devi College.

This so-called students' protest that deliberately used college outsiders, ABVP members to be specific, to bully a teacher brings back grim memories.

In 2006, in neighbouring Ujjain, professor H S Sabharwal had died in an incident of campus violence that allegedly involved the ABVP. But no one was punished for lack of evidence.
