New Delhi:

Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, Union Minister Piyush Goyal today said efforts will work to create a federation of 50 solar power-rich nations and also make India the world's renewable energy capital.

"The PM has left behind a task for us to bring together the 50-odd solar rich countries and we are going to take this on as our responsibility," Mr Goyal said.

The Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Minister said his government will build a federation of countries which have interest in solar and have the potential to become masters of renewable energy countries.

"We are going to work with the World Economic Forum, IREDA (Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency) to build a consortium of renewable energy countries in the days ahead," he added.

Mr Goyal said: "We will work together to make India renewable energy capital of the world."

PM Modi on Sunday while inaugurating the RE-Invest conference had said, "Efforts should be made to form a grouping of 50 nations with abundant solar energy to look for technology solutions."

Meanwhile, as many as 293 firms have committed to build 266 GW or 2,66,000 MW renewable energy capacity in the next five years.

An estimated Rs 6 crore is needed to set up a 1 MW of solar capacity.
