India Asks Its Diplomats In Pakistan To Withdraw Kids From Local Schools

New Delhi: The children of Indian diplomats in Pakistan will no longer study there. In a decision taken a year ago, which was leaked in the Pakistani media today, the Ministry of External Affairs asked High Commission staff to send their children back for the next academic year, citing security.

The MEA said today, "It is a normal practice for all countries to review staffing and related policies for their diplomatic missions, including in view of prevailing circumstances at those stations. With effect from  this academic session, officials posted in the High Commission of India in Islamabad have been advised to make arrangements for education of their wards outside Pakistan, till further notice."

Sources say the decision was taken in June 2015.

The story appeared in a Pakistani newspaper this morning, forcing the Indian government to react.

Sources say the decision affects 50 to 60 children of diplomats and support staff, who will now study back home.
