Gujjar quota: Bainsla starts agitation, warns of escalation

Jaipur: Alleging that the Rajasthan Government was "ignoring" the issue of reservation for Gujjars and other castes, Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bainsla on Wednesday began a Mahapadav (sit-in) in Sawaimadhopur district.

Demanding submission of survey report of communities to the OBC commission, as directed by the High Court, Mr Bainsla threatened to take the Mahapadav to the advanced stage on Wednesday.

On May 30, Mr Bainsla had threatened to launch another agitation if the state government did not expedite the quota issue within 10 days.

The Gujjar leader had called a meeting of community leaders in Chan village where he addressed the gathering and alleged that government was not taking the quota issue seriously.

The meeting was later converted into Mahapadav.

"The state government has not fulfilled the promises made to the community. We demand that the government expedite the matter by submitting a survey report of communities to the OBC commission as directed by the High Court," he said.

"If the state government does not submit its report soon, the community activists will start sit-in across the state," he added.

SP Sawaimadhopur Param Jyoti told PTI that the Gujjar leader began the sit-in after noon in an open farm in Chan village and caused no disruption to traffic or normal life.

"Situation is normal and peaceful. Number of people in the sit-in is quite low in the night and likely to increase tomorrow morning so we are making elaborate security arrangements to ensure law and order," she said.
