An Uttar Pradesh BJP MP's sister has filed a police complaint accusing her husband's family of assault and threats to her life, officials said on Sunday. The complaint has surfaced alongside a video of the woman being beaten with a stick by her father-in-law, which has gone viral.

Reena Singh, the sister of Mukesh Rajput, an MP from UP's Farrukhabad, alleges in her complaint that her father-in-law, Laxman Singh, and brothers-in-law Rajesh and Girish Singh attacked her and threatened to kill her.

Reena Singh also claims that on Sunday afternoon, when she was bathing in the bathroom, Girish Singh and Laxman Singh tried to record a video of her through the window.

When she protested, she was allegedly verbally abused and physically assaulted, the complaint says.

A video that has been widely circulated shows Laxman Singh raining blows on Reena Singh with a stick.

Ms Singh claims that her father-in-law also took out a licensed rifle and threatened her, saying, "I will shoot you."

She further alleged that her brother-in-law, Rajesh, attacked her with a sharp knife, causing an injury to her hand, while Girish also attacked her with an iron rod.

Ms Singh says she continues to receive threats even after the assault.

A police officer in the region, Chaman Goswami, said that an FIR has been registered against Laxman Singh, Rajesh, and Girish based on the complaint.

"The matter is being investigated, and strict action will be taken against the culprits as per the law," he said.
