- New York State Senate has passed a resolution honouring the late Beastie Boy Adam Yauch's achievements.
- The J4637 resolution was written by Daniel Squadron - who represents the district of Brooklyn Heights, where Yauch was born - and celebrates his many accomplishments and contributions.
- Daniel vowed to hold a vigil in memory of the 47-year-old -- better known as "MCA" - who succumbed to lymph cancer a fortnight ago.
- The lifelong fan of the band hailed them for having "helped redefine and rejuvenate a city on the ropes".
- The senator said: "Growing up in New York, listening to the Beastie Boys was as basic as carrying an extra subway token in case of emergency."
- Labelling Adam as "a man of colossal talent and charisma," he continued to say all who knew him will miss him.
- The resolution reads: "The Beastie Boys became well-known in the innovative music scene in Manhattan's East Village and Lower East Side with a sound and a style all their own ... [they] exemplified New York through a period in which grassroots creativity and a community of iconoclastic artists helped redefine and rejuvenate a city on the ropes, with iconic imagery from Brooklyn to Ludlow Street.
- "Adam Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wengdu, and their daughter Losel. He will be missed by his family, his fans and all who knew him; his dedication to his music, his activism and his heritage leaves an indelible legacy of inspiration for all other artists."
