About Murshidabad

The Murshidabad Lok Sabha constituency consists of seven assembly segments Bhagabangola, Raninagar, Murshidabad, Hariharpara, Domkal, Jalangi and Karimpur. This Lok Sabha constituency has parts in Murshidabad and Nadia districts. A total of 1722752 voters have been registered in this constituency among which are 882248 male voters, 840476 female voters and 28 third gender voters. Murshidabad constituency will go to polls on April 23, in the third phase of the 17th Lok Sabha election.

This time, polling will be held at 1907 booths in this constituency.

This time CPM is fielding the sitting MP Badaruddoza Khan in Murshidabad constituency which is in its forte'. Mr Khan is a science graduate and is a Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Human Resource Development since 2014. He was also a member in the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. In the last general election, CPM won the seat with 426947 votes. Congress had the second majority in vote count.

In 2014 Lok Sabha polls voter turnout in Murshidabad constituency was 85.22%.

Among other key contenders, this time, are Abu Taher Khan (TMC), Abu Hena (Congress), Mijanul Haque (BSP) and Humayun Kabir (BJP).

11 contestants are in fray for the Murshidabad seat among which are 3 independent candidates.

Poll results will be announced on May 23.
