Rajasthan SI Exam: Supreme Court Modifies Relief Granted To Over-Age Candidates
The Supreme Court restricted the scope of the relief granted to RPSC SI recruitment over-age candidates.

Rajasthan SI Recruitment Exam 2025: The Supreme Court has modified its previous order dated April 2, 2026, regarding the Rajasthan Sub-Inspector (SI) Recruitment Examination for the 2025 cycle today, thereby significantly narrowing the scope of relief granted to over-age candidates.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court directed that the SI Recruitment 2021 candidates be allowed to appear in the 2025 recruitment examination by granting them age relaxation. The relaxation was granted to those candidates who were unable to fill out the recruitment examination due to age restrictions. A bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, while modifying its order dated April 2, 2026, clarified that not all over-age candidates would be permitted to appear for the examination. The court stated that the relief would be confined solely to the litigants involved in the case.

New Over-age Candidates Can Disrupt the Entire System, Says RPSC

The  Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) informed the court that approximately 7.7 lakh candidates are already participating in this recruitment process. The examination is being conducted across more than 1,173 centers spread across 41 cities. Under these circumstances, further including a large number of new over-age candidates can disrupt the entire administrative machinery and arrangements.

Suraj Mal Meena and 713 Over-age Candidates to Appear For Exam

The court clarified that only the applicant, Suraj Mal Meena, would be permitted to appear in the examination, thereby restricting the broad interpretation of the earlier order. Additionally, the court took cognizance of the RPSC's submission that admit cards had already been issued to approximately 713 over-age candidates, and that they are scheduled to appear in the examination, which is being conducted in two phases on April 5 and 6, 2026.

Scope of Relief Applies Only To Those Who Approached The Court

The commission also noted that over 2.21 lakh candidates from the 2021 recruitment cycle did not even apply this time around. Including them at this stage would only serve to further complicate the recruitment process. Taking these facts into consideration, the Supreme Court restricted the scope of the relief granted and clarified that its order would apply exclusively to those candidates who had approached the court.

The top court further clarified that there will be no changes in the examination schedule for the RPSC SI exam.
