It's imported liquor over bhang this Holi

Delhi: It's not just the colours that'll flow in abundance this Holi. Booze, too, is set to flood the scene like never before. Vimal Nath Monga, owner of House of Spirits, a liquor boutique in Select Citywalk mall in Saket, says, "The business has already gone up by 20-30 percent this week and we are expecting it to double in the next two days, before the shop shuts for the festival. We have already received bulk orders from many of our customers and people are coming all the way from Faridabad to buy liquor from our shop."

And, it's imported liquor that's competing with the bhang (cannabis), this time. "We have received a large number of orders for imported brands, which I thought was surprising considering the fact that till sometime back, people were only doing beer and bhang," he adds.

In Vasant Kunj, it's French and Italian wines that are the drinks of the day. "We have young corporates and homemakers stepping in to stock up on Chardonnay and Merlot. We had thought that only beer would go off the shelf. In fact, we were thinking of stocking some bhang but this season, the city's tastes seem to have changed," says Naresh Jaisingh, owner of Hic Hic Hurray, a liquor outlet in the area.
