The decision was taken at a Maha Panchayat held in the village and presided over by DPPC president Arvinder Singh Lovely.
Addressing villagers, Congress leader Arvinder Singh and ex-MP Sajjan Kumar said the Congress Party will oppose at every platform the proposed move to set up the sanitary landfill at Maidan Garhi Village by the BJP-ruled MCD.
"If a landfill site is established in Maidan Garhi, it will terribly affect the nearby colonies, housing societies, resettlement colonies, and over 10 lakh villagers. Besides, the proposed landfill site is near the IGNOU and SAARC campuses," Mr Singh said.
Another Congress leader Mukesh Sharma alleged that MCD, by deliberately setting up a landfill at the Maidan Garhi village, will be wreaking environmental havoc at the ridge area.
"BJP seemed to be determined to eliminate the identity of the villages in Delhi, and the Congress will not allow this to happen. Congress demands that the proposed landfill at the Maidan Garhi Village should be relocated forthwith," Mr Sharma added.
The Congress leaders warned the MCD that if a demolition drive is carried out in the villages, then the party would start agitations and no official would be allowed to enter these villages in Delhi.
