New Delhi: Exhibition on Commonwealth Games opens

New Delhi: Archival documents that highlight India's sporting tradition, the role of youth and the genesis and growth of Commonwealth Games (CWG) have been showcased at an exhibition in New Delhi.

The exhibition titled 'Commonwealth: Upholding Sporting Tradition and Sporting Spirit' also depicts the history of the 19th Games host city Delhi with the aid of historical records, rare photographs and other contemporary material.

After inaugurating the exhibition at the National Archives of India Museum, Vice President Hamid Ansari said school students should be brought to the exhibition so that they can know the history.

National Archives of India Director-General Prof Mushirul Hasan and Culture Secretary Jawhar Sircar were also present on the occasion.

The exhibition will be open for public viewing till October 15.

The exhibition based on historical records, rare photographs and contemporary material, showcases the genesis and growth of Commonwealth Movement and India's historical relationship with Member States and the Commonwealth.

It highlights not only the concept of the Commonwealth Movement with special reference to India, but also games and sports of India and the country's underlying sporting spirit.

The exhibition also highlights the country's sporting tradition and the role of youth through archival documents.

It is divided into four parts India and Commonwealth, Commonwealth Games: A Retrospect, Sports in India, and the Host City: Delightful Delhi.
