Mumbai businessman planned to kill fiance's kin

A 29-year-old businessman has been arrested for purchasing a firearm, allegedly to kill his fiance's uncle and aunt. The reason: They were objecting to the marriage and had even started badmouthing the boy. The wedding was scheduled for April 15.

The matter came to light after constable Sunil Khot learnt that Gupta had purchased the weapon.

"Gupta planned to marry the girl from Andheri with whom he had been in a relationship since four months," said Police Inspector Mahesh Tawde. "However, the girl's maternal uncle and aunt objected to the alliance."

Anmol owns a factory in Kandivli, while the girl runs a beauty parlour in Andheri.

Gupta, who was nabbed by the Crime Branch (Unit XI) and booked under the Arms Act, has been remanded in police custody till May 9.
