Tata Motors has kicked off the year 2026 on a remarkable high, reporting its highest-ever monthly sales of 71,066 units in January. This performance marks a 47.1% year-on-year growth, underscoring the company's strong momentum in both domestic and export markets.
Domestic sales contributed Tata's share, with 70,222 units sold, compared to 48,076 units in January 2025. This translates to a 46.1% growth, reflecting robust demand across Tata's expanding portfolio. On the export front, the company shipped 844 units, a sharp rise from 240 units last year, registering an impressive 251.7% growth.
The company's leadership in the electric vehicle segment was further reinforced, with EV sales surging 72.7% year-on-year. Tata sold 9,052 EVs in January 2026, up from 5,240 units a year earlier, cementing its position as India's leading EV manufacturer.
Among individual models, the Nexon continued to dominate, achieving its best-ever monthly sales of over 23,000 units. The compact SUV also crossed the prestigious 10 lakh cumulative sales milestone, a landmark achievement in Tata's journey. The Punch followed closely, recording its strongest monthly sales of over 19,000 units. Remarkably, it crossed 7 lakh cumulative sales in just 4 years and 3 months, which Tata claims is the fastest in the industry.
The Tiago, Tata's most affordable offering, also joined the milestone club, surpassing 7 lakh cumulative sales. Meanwhile, fresh launches such as the Sierra, along with updated petrol-powered Harrier and Safari, contributed significantly to overall growth.
The Sierra, launched in December 2025, generated considerable buzz in the Indian market, with deliveries commencing in January 2026. Tata confirmed that production is being progressively ramped up to meet exceptional customer demand.
