No Toll Tax On Ganga Expressway For First 15 Days: Here's How Much You'll Save

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newest expressway of Uttar Pradesh on April 29. The expressway connects Meerut to Prayagraj, easing the connectivity between the eastern and western parts of the state. Stretching 594 kilometres, the expressway will allow toll-free travel for the first 15 days, enabling motorists to use the corridor without paying any charges during the initial period. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the occasion of Labour Day, offering residents a temporary reprieve before toll collection begins.

How Much You'll Save During Free Travel Period?

With toll charges waived for the first 15 days, motorists using the Ganga Expressway stand to make significant savings, especially on long inter-city runs. Based on the standard toll rate of Rs 2.55 per kilometre for a car/jeep on other expressways, estimates suggest that a Prayagraj-Meerut journey could save car owners around Rs 1,515. For small commercial vehicles, the savings rise to approximately Rs 2,405, while buses and trucks could avoid paying nearly Rs 4,840 per trip. Over multiple trips, these savings can add up quickly, making the initial toll-free window a substantial relief for both private commuters and commercial operators.

The Ganga Expressway was formally inaugurated on April 29 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an event in Hardoi. Designed as a high-speed, access-controlled corridor, the expressway significantly reduces travel time between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, while boosting economic activity along its route.

When Will Toll Collection Begin?

According to officials, toll collection will begin after 15 days, once toll rates receive formal approval in a cabinet meeting. Once operational, toll charges will be deducted exclusively via FASTag, ensuring seamless, cashless travel. The expressway will follow a closed toll system, meaning vehicles will only need to stop at entry and exit points, without intermediate toll plazas.
