The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised the fee for the FASTag Annual Pass for the financial year 2026-27. As per an official order issued on March 12, the cost of the pass for non-commercial vehicles will see a marginal increase starting April 1. Owners of private cars, jeeps and vans will now have to pay Rs 3,075 for the annual pass, compared to the earlier price of Rs 3,000.
The FASTag Annual Pass scheme was launched on Independence Day in 2025 to make highway travel more convenient for frequent commuters. The initiative was aimed at reducing repeated toll payments and encouraging wider use of digital toll collection through FASTag across the national highway network.
What Is The FASTag Annual Pass?
The annual pass is designed specifically for private vehicles registered for non-commercial use. Any car, jeep or van equipped with a valid FASTag is eligible to opt for the scheme.
Once activated, the pass allows a vehicle to cross toll plazas on National Highways up to 200 times or remain valid for a period of one year, whichever comes first. The benefit applies regardless of the individual toll fee at different plazas along the highway network.
Data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) indicates that the scheme has gained significant traction among motorists. Currently, more than 50 lakh users across India are utilising the FASTag Annual Pass for toll payments.
In fact, nearly 28 per cent of toll transactions made by private cars on National Highways are now conducted using the annual pass, reflecting the growing popularity of the system among regular highway travellers.
FASTag's Dominance In Toll Collection
FASTag has emerged as the primary toll payment system in India since its rollout in 2016. According to government data, about 11.86 crore FASTags have been issued so far. Of these, nearly 5.9 crore remain active and are used for electronic toll payments across the country.
Currently, more than 98 per cent of toll revenue collected at National Highway fee plazas is processed through FASTag, highlighting the large-scale adoption of digital tolling.

How To Apply For The Annual Pass
Motorists can apply for or renew the FASTag Annual Pass through digital platforms such as the Rajmarg Yatra App, as well as the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH.
To activate the pass, users need to log in with their FASTag-linked account, enter vehicle registration details and a registered mobile number, and complete the payment through UPI, debit or credit cards, or net banking. After the payment is processed, the pass is automatically linked to the FASTag and typically becomes active within 24 hours, providing one year or up to 200 toll crossings of validity.
