Maruti Suzuki WagonR has crossed a cumulative production milestone of 35 lakh units in India, becoming one of the few models in the country to reach this figure across three generations. The company announced the achievement, reflecting the hatchback's popularity in the country and sustained demand over 25 years since its launch in December 1999.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited said the WagonR now joins the Alto and Swift in its portfolio as models that have surpassed the 35 lakh production mark in the domestic market. The car is currently manufactured at the company's facilities in Gurgaon and Manesar, Haryana.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, "This achievement is not just a production milestone, but reflects the enduring love and confidence that generations of customers have shown towards the brand WagonR. It is rare for a vehicle to receive such acceptance even after 25 years since its launch."

The WagonR has been highly appreciated for aspects like its iconic tall-boy design, spacious interiors and fuel efficiency, which aptly reflect our customers' needs and expectations. Introduced in India in 1999, the WagonR has been updated over time. The latest-generation WagonR is based on Maruti Suzuki's fifth-generation HEARTECT platform and comes equipped with six airbags as standard. It also offers safety technologies such as Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Electronic Stability Program.

On the features front, the WagonR is available with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands. Maruti Suzuki positions the model as a practical city and family car with an emphasis on ease of use and efficiency.

According to industry body SIAM data cited by the company, the WagonR has been India's highest-selling car for the last four financial years. Maruti Suzuki credits attributes such as the tall-boy design, spacious cabin, and fuel efficiency for the car's continued popularity in the domestic market.

Globally, the Suzuki WagonR nameplate was first introduced in Japan in September 1993 as a semi-bonnet style mini wagon and went on to gain strong acceptance as a comfortable and easy-to-use car. It is manufactured in Japan, India, Hungary, and Indonesia, and is currently sold in more than 75 countries and regions, including Europe.
