BMW 7 Series, i7 Facelifts Set For India Launch On September 11

BMW India will launch the updated 7 Series and all-electric i7 on September 11, marking another key product introduction in 2026 that the German luxury carmaker says will see 25 launches. Bookings for the flagship sedans opened on August 1, with the facelift bringing revised styling, a refreshed cabin and a host of feature upgrades.

Exterior Updates

The facelifted 7 Series features a revised front fascia with a new illuminated kidney grille and redesigned split headlights. The slimmer upper lighting elements house the daytime running lights, while the main headlamp units are positioned lower in the bumper. The sedan retains its long-wheelbase silhouette and flush door handles, while new alloy wheel designs have been introduced. BMW has also added an illuminated and embossed "7" motif on the B-pillar.

At the rear, the sedan gets slimmer tail-lamps that extend further into the tailgate, along with a redesigned bumper featuring diffuser-style detailing. New chrome accents and smoked lighting elements further distinguish the updated model.

Cabin And Features

Inside, the 7 Series receives a substantially revised dashboard layout. The cabin now incorporates a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, a 14.6-inch passenger display and a full-width projected driver information display at the base of the windscreen. The system runs BMW Operating System X and supports over-the-air updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with enhanced voice control functionality.

A new four-spoke steering wheel debuts on the flagship sedan, while BMW continues to emphasize rear-seat luxury. Key features include a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System, updated ambient lighting, heated and powered rear armrests, massage functions and a 31.3-inch Theatre Screen that supports streaming, video calls and gaming.

Powertrain Updates

The 740i xDrive petrol and 740d xDrive diesel variants continue with 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid engines paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Output has increased to 400 hp and 580 Nm for the petrol model, while the diesel now produces 313 hp and 670 Nm.

On the electric side, the i7 50 eDrive has been replaced by the i7 50 xDrive, which adds all-wheel drive and a larger 112.4 kWh battery pack. Power stands at 455 hp and 660 Nm. The performance-focused i7 M70 xDrive also adopts the larger battery, with output increasing to 680 hp and up to 1,100 Nm of torque.

India Launch

Bookings for the updated BMW 7 Series and i7 are already underway, with prices set to be announced at their September 11 launch. The models will continue to compete with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and EQS in the flagship luxury sedan segment.

BMW's Recent Surge: i5 LWB, X1 LWB

BMW has unveiled the i5 Long Wheelbase for India ahead of its expected launch in September. The luxury EV will be BMW India's second locally assembled electric vehicle and will be offered initially in a First Edition, limited to the first 99 customers.
The i5 LWB is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 268 bhp, enabling a 0-100 kmph sprint in 6.7 seconds. Power comes from an 81.6 kWh battery pack, which BMW claims delivers a driving range of up to 669 km (MIDC) on a single charge.

The unveiling follows BMW India's recent launch of the X1 Long Wheelbase at Rs 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The stretched SUV is 116 mm longer than the standard X1 and features a 108 mm longer wheelbase, with the added length aimed at improving rear-seat space. It is offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154 bhp and 230 Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
