Two policemen killed in Pak blast

Peshawar: At least two policemen were killed and as many injured when pro-Taliban militants targeted a
police van with a roadside bomb in northwest Pakistan's Peshawar city today, officials said.

Militants first blew up an empty police post on the outskirts of Peshawar early this morning.

When policemen rushed to the spot in a van, the vehicle was targeted with a remote-controlled bomb in Pir Bala area, the officials said.

Sub-Inspector Rasool Shah was killed instantly and the driver of the van succumbed to his injuries in hospital later, they said. Two other policemen were injured.

Pir Bala is located near the volatile Mohmand tribal region, where the army has been conducting an operation against militants since last month.

Over 100 militants have been killed in the tribal region so far.

The Taliban have carried out several bomb attacks targeting police and security forces in and around Peshawar in retaliation for operations against them in the tribal belt bordering Afghanistan.
