Insurgents take police hostage in western Iraq

Baghdad: Iraqi officials say insurgents have broken into a police station in western Iraq and are holding a number of police officers hostage.

The deputy of the Anbar province governor, Dhari Arkan, says the Iraqi army is surrounding a police station in the town of al-Baghdadi. He says Insurgents are holed up inside and have taken police officers hostage.

Lt. Col. Mohammed Ismail of the Anbar police also confirmed the incident Monday.

Both men say there is no immediate word on casualties.

Anbar province has been a hotbed of the insurgency for years.
