Pennsylvania:
A 10-year-old boy has been charged as an adult in the beating death of a 90-year-old woman over the weekend in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Prosecutors in Wayne County allege that the boy was visiting his grandfather, the caretaker of Helen Novak, in Tyler Hill on Saturday.
The district attorney's office said in a statement that the boy's mother told state police that her son said he had gone into Novak's room and she yelled at him, and "he got mad, lost his temper and grabbed a cane and put it around Novak's throat."
Police said he told a trooper that he "held the cane on her throat and then punched her numerous times."
He was charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault and held without bail pending an Oct. 22 preliminary hearing; it's unclear whether he has an attorney.
