In April, the Narendra Modi government caused a stir when it gave the go ahead for a petition to be filed in the High Court seeking the death penalty for former minister Maya Kodnani, once a close Modi aide, in a 2002 Gujarat riots case. It is now doing a rethink, apparently under pressure.
