Rising gold prices hit global demand

Commerce Minister Kamal Nath might want India to be a global hub for gems and jewellery, but there was little sparkle in last year's exports, bringing down the annual growth figure to a single digit. The main reason for this is a drop in demand from the US, which accounts for 40 per cent of India's export offtake.
