Coimbatore: Defying a government order to observe a power holiday once a week to tide over the acutepower crisis in the state, about 60 per cent of nearly 40,000 small, micro and tiny industries functioned, in protestagainst 'failure' to provide power for the rest of the week.

Though the industries, including small and large textile mills, cooperated with Government by stopping production on twoThursdays, as ordered and also on Sundays, government 'failed' to give quality power in the remaining five days and continuedwith power cuts over 10 hours a day, Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Enterprises (TACT), said.

Industries had hoped there would be only four hour power cut once power holidays across the state are implemented. But the situation worsened since the last one week,it said, adding that considering production loss, industries have no other gobut work on power holidays to meet delivery schedules.

Top Electricity Board officials, who did not wish to be quoted, admitted that the board has failed to give necessarypower for industries, as the situation was severe.

Moreover, most of the industries either use generators or remain shut due to non availability of power wheneverofficials go for inspection, the officials said.
