Kerala Bamboo Fest from December 8

Kochi: Aimed at providing a common platform for the artisans and craftsmen in the Bamboo industry, the Kerala Bamboo Fest 2011 will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium from December 8.

Industry Minister P K Kunhalikkuty will inaugurate the three day fest, which is jointly organised by the State Industries and Commerce department, Kerala Bamboo Mission and Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion.

Besides the artisans from Kerala, the festival will also see artisans and craftsmen from Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Tripura, West Bengal, Mizoram and Assam.

The fest is envisaged to help artisans as well as entrepreneurs in the bamboo industry to acquire knowledge about the latest product and design developments. The fest will also act as a platform for them to share information. A wide variety of innovative products made from bamboo are expected to be showcased at the fest.

The Bamboo fest will showcase various products and services, including handicrafts, furniture and wood substitutes, and also offer opportunities to create of links between producers and marketers.

The festival also intended evoke an entrepreneurship drive among artisans. The organisers also intend to popularise the use of bamboo products and educate the people on the benefits of using bamboo.
