Mumbai: Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistan origin arrested by FBI for his role in a terror plot to carry out attacks in India, visited Meerut and Hapur before the Mumbai attacks.

As the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sleuths go digging into suspected Lashkar operatives Rana and Headley's stay in India before the 26/11 attacks, investigators have found that Rana and his wife Samraz Akhtar visited Meerut and Hapur on November 13 2008.

Rana also visited the Taj in Agra the following day with his family.

Rana's relatives in Meerut and Hapur gave the details when NIA officers visited them. They said they could not believe that Rana could be involved in terror activities.

The NIA has registered a case against Headley and Rana under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and for conspiring to wage war against the country.

It has claimed that Rana had links with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba.

The investigating agency is also probing the duo's role in various terror strikes in the country, including the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

Headley, a 49-year-old Pakistan-born US citizen, was arrested in Chicago last month by the FBI, which said he was part of an LeT plan to carry out terror attacks in Delhi's National Defence College, Dehradun's Doon School and Woodstock in Mussoorie.
