New Delhi: A man who sold land in Rajasthan to various companies including that of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra was raided by the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday.

Searches took place in eight places in Bikaner linked to 1,400 acres of government land acquired by seven companies between 2007 and 2009. Among them is Mr Vadra's Skylight Hospitality.

One of the persons raided, Jay Prakash Bagadwa, is accused of selling the land using forged documents, to Skylight and the other companies.

Enforcement Directorate officials say Skylight bought almost seven acres of the land for 72 lakhs and sold it for over Rs 5 crore. Sources say the directorate could soon issue notice to the company.

"Robert Vadra does not own an inch of land in Rajasthan. In fact the Rajasthan police under the present BJP government headed by Vasundhara Raje came to the conclusion that Mr Vadra himself was a victim. The investigations being carried on at present pertain to the previous tenure of Ms Raje and let me state authoritatively the raids conducted today have nothing whatsoever to do with Mr Vadra," said Tehseen Poonawalla, Mr Vadra's supporter.

The BJP has repeatedly targeted Mr Vadra over his controversial land deals in Haryana and Rajasthan, both ruled by the party.

Mr Vadra's land deal in Haryana is being investigated by a judicial committee.
