BJP says can't trust Jaswant

New Delhi:

The BJP has reacted sharply to Jaswant Singh's interview to NDTV, where he said he had withheld the truth on Kandahar to protect Advani and that Advani knew he was on the plane to Kandahar.

BJP general secretary Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday questioned how anyone could believe what Jaswant is saying now on the issue, when he has himself admitted he did not tell the whole truth earlier.

In his interview to NDTV's Barkha Dutt, Jaswant Singh had said Advani was present at the Cabinet meeting where it was decided that Jaswant Singh would accompany the three terrorists to Kandahar.

Taking a direct swipe at Advani, Jaswant said he too could ask him: Why IC 814 was allowed to leave Amritsar.

In a separate interview to Shekhar Gupta on NDTV's Walk the Talk, Jaswant Singh said that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was so upset over the Gujarat riots that he had contemplated resigning.

Singh said Vajpayee had even wanted to take action against chief minister Narendra Modi, but was stopped by LK Advani.

But Venkaiah Naidu also denied this. He said while Vajpayee was indeed very disturbed at the time, he certainly did not contemplate quitting.
