The police suspect that the terrorists were trying to enter Srinagar to carry out an attack.

Srinagar: Two suspected terrorists were killed during an encounter after police intercepted a vehicle they were traveling in near Srinagar this evening. Two CRPF personnel were also injured in the encounter.

A senior Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer said they suspect that the terrorists were trying to enter Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir to carry out an attack.

"The plan was foiled after the police and the CRPF intercepted the vehicle and killed both the terrorists," the officer said.

The police said a Naka party was deployed at Sampora, Pampore near Srinagar. As they intercepted the vehicle the terrorists opened fire and in the ensuing encounter two of them were killed. The terrorists who were killed are yet to be identified.

The police said they had to evacuate people to safety on the busy highway. A cordon and search operation is underway.
