Delhi man arrested for stealing CNG kits

New Delhi: One person has been arrested for allegedly stealing compressed natural gas (CNG) kits from vehicles in the city, police said on Sunday.

They said 18 CNG kits, eight CNG cylinders and a car were recovered from the arrested man, identified as Monu alias Kishan, a resident of Ashok Vihar.

Monu was nabbed on Friday from Sector 3 in Pushp Vihar, a senior police official said, adding a switch-operated knife was also recovered from him.

During interrogation, he confessed that he along with his associates Zaved, Naresh, Mahender and Raj Singh was involved in over 250 cases of theft of CNG kits from various parts of the city and the national capital region, said H G S Dhaliwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police of South District.

Monu and his gang members, who were allegedly involved in several theft cases and had spent long time in jail, used to move in a stolen Honda City car and after spotting a vehicle, they used to take the vehicle to an isolated place and take out the CNG kit, CNG cylinder and music system and other items, police said. They used to operate in the wee hours.

They used to keep stolen goods at a rented accommodation and sell those to their contacts in Noida and Meerut, the official said, adding each kit was sold at a price of Rs 8,000.

Efforts are on to arrest Zaved, Naresh, Mahender and Raj Singh, he added.
