Amarinder's brother to face nephew in Punjab poll

Patiala: Malwinder Singh, younger brother of Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh is all set to take on his nephew Raninder in Samana Assembly constituency.

The Congress has decided to field Amarinder's son Raninder from Samana from where Malwinder Singh would seek nomination as an Independent.

"I have made up my mind to contest from Samana against Raninder," Malwinder told PTI here.

Raninder was earlier said to be trying for the Patiala Rural seat but was instead nominated from Samana.

Senior party leader Braham Mohindra has been fielded from Patiala Rural.

Malwinder said, "I am certainly not satisfied with the decision of my nephew to stand against his own uncle as our Indian traditions do not allow us to stand against elders in the family."

"Why I speak to my brother and ask him to reconsider the decision. I have made up my mind and it is up to them to see," Malwinder said.

When asked whether he will approach the Congress high command to review the decision he said, "I have no grudge against (Sonia) Gandhi. It (the issue of nomination) was between my brother and my nephew."

Parkash Singh Badal is to be pitted against his younger brother Gurdas Singh Badal and father of PPP president Manpreet from Lambi seat.

Another member of the family, Mahesh Inder Singh Badal, a cousin of the two is set to enter the fray from Lambi as a Congress nominee.
