Mass grave unearthed in Balochistan

Quetta: A mass grave has been unearthed in Pakistan's troubled Balochistan province, authorities said today.

The grave which was uncovered in the Tutak area of Khuzdar district contained an unspecified number of bodies, most of which were decomposed and beyond recognition, said Afzal Sarpara, Assistant Commissioner of the district.

"They appear to be a month old," he said.

Meanwhile, a local official quoting medics said the bodies appeared to be mauled by wild animals.

"We do not know who they are and who killed them. It's inhuman. We have started investigations," the official said.

The daily Express tribune reported that relatives of missing persons in the province have started speculating that the bodies could be of their loved ones.

"We fear these bodies are of the missing persons. The judiciary and rights activists should press the government to carry out a transparent investigation," said Nasrullah Baloch, the chairman of the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons.

Khuzdar has been the worst hit district in the province.

The issue of missing persons in the province has been taken up by the Balochistan High court and Supreme court since last year.
