Mumbai: A non-cognisable offence was today registered against AAP candidate from Mumbai North West constituency, Mayank Gandhi, after his opponent and Bollywood starlet Rakhi Sawant, who recently launched Rashtriya Aam Party, alleged that he used "filthy" language against her.

Sawant approached the Oshiwara police station after a newspaper quoted Gandhi as saying that only those who want "to enjoy" ('maja marna') would vote for her.

An NC was registered against Gandhi under relevant sections of the IPC, said Nasirkhan Pathan, Senior Inspector.

Gandhi told PTI that he had not intended to make any sexist remark.

"I had only said that only non-serious voters will vote for non-serious candidates like Rakhi Sawant and (film maker) Kamal R Khan. There was no sexist remark intended against anyone," he said.

The police usually do not investigate or make arrests in the cases of non-cognisable complaints unless the court directs so.
